The Filipino nation salutes Saturnino Lumboy, an outstanding artist and graphics designer. Lumboy proclaimed to the world the excellence in Filipino craftsmanship and creativity when he swept the 1988 World Bank International Stamp Design Competition of all first prizes of the six categories in the competition.
Sponsored by the United Nations in New York, the contest had 221 entries from 24 countries including American and Spanish graphics firms. Lumboy’s victory was celebrated by the world and the Filipino nation for which he dedicated and shared his award.
As a worker in Saudi Arabia, Lumboy’s remarkable talent has also given the Philippines prestige and recognition by his winning the first prize in Mixed Media at the Ras Tanura Invitational Art Competition. His talents have allowed him to be bequeathed with an honorary membership to the Dhahran Art Group and the Abqaiq Arts, Crafts and Hobby Group, two of the largest art associations in the Kingdom. In his work as an artist at Arab-American Oil Company (ARAMCO), he received numerous citations and commendations from foreign colleagues and superiors. He is also very much in demand in art shows, lectures and community affairs where he enhances the image of the Filipino as an artist.
