Marilyn “Wafa” Roscales Kasimieh joined the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, Government of Dubai in 1996 as an Administrative Assistant and has worked her way up to her current position as Senior Advisor.  In the office, she has always been very reliable, diligent and helpful, traits that made her dear to all her colleagues’ hearts. She has proven to be always proactive and dynamic – making a success of any project assigned to her. A number of her bright ideas, in different areas of responsibility, have already been implemented, most of which she has seen to fruition.

Wafa also help the Trainings and Opportunities for Pinoys Abroad (TROPA), that provides skills training and livelihood opportunities to fellow Filipino in the UAE. Through her good will and rightful connections in the local government of Dubai, she was able to provide TROPA with a Villa to house the whole School for all their livelihood courses and skills trainings, with no charges nor rental fees.

As an active member of the Fil-com, Wafa assisted in expediting the process of humanitarian airlifting of OFWs who escaped from the war-torn Libya, and who passed through Dubai enroute to the Philippines. She was requested by the Philippine Consulate to volunteer to perform this task being one of the few people allowed to enter the airport’s no-entry zone, in her capacity as Filipino Community Leader, and employee of the Dubai Government, who is able to communicate with the officials in Arabic, in behalf of the stranded Filipinos.

Wafa is also a consistent benefactor of Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial Hospital in Lambunao, Iloilo for the past four years. She volunteered to finance the acquisition of many hospital equipments, medical, housekeeping supplies, furnitures and many other needs of the hospital. This year a hospital canopy worth more than P1M will be constructed through her effort.

Wafa also helped the Caninguan National High School in Lambunao Iloilo.

Wafa is a recipient of Presidential Awardee – Banaag Award 2010, for her invaluable initiatives which have benefitted distressed Filipino workers in the United Arab Emirates and her commendable extension and financial assistance to improve the living conditions of her kababayan in the province of Iloilo and beyond, presented by President Benigno S. Aquino, III, December 14, 2010, City of Manila.

She was awarded Best Staff of the Year Award 2009, by the Islamic & Charitable Activities Department.
