Filipino Crew of South Islander

On 17 April 2011, while “South Islander” was passing Caroline Island off Guam on course bound to Honiara, Solomon Island, Capt. Agengoza received a phone call from USCG Guam Sector informing them that the Fishing Vessel Daichi Shoei Maru is in distress. Unselfishly they responded to a distress call from a fishboat which is on fire and eventually rescued a total of 27 crew of Shoei Maru No. 1.

A Letter of Appreciation to the Master  and the Crew of South Islander was given by Hiroaki Igeta, Commander, 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, Japan Coast Guard, on 23 June 2011.
