On June 21, 2013, while enroute to Geraldton, Australia, the crew of MV BALTIC K saw a stalled fishing boat afloat at approximately 900 miles from the coast. The fishing boat named SEVEN STAR, had on board 29 hungry and devastated Sri Lankan refugees who had been at sea for 67 days. Capt. Jeffrey M. Magno and his crew followed protocol and communicated with the rescue coordinating center in Australia for assistance The Sri Lankan refugees were immediately rescued and were brought to Christmas Island, Australia by Capt. Magno and his men.

The Filipino Crew of MV BALTIC K is being awarded the Bagong Bayani for Outstanding Employee for their timely assistance to the 29 Sri Lankan refugees. Without the immediate and prudent action taken by the said crew, the refugees could have perished in the perilous waters of Australia.
