Position: Senior Procurement Clerk
Employer: Royal Saudi Naval Forces, Saudi Arabia
“MODEL FILIPINO IN SAUDI”
Ulirang Filipino, an outstanding citizen and consistent recipient or the model employee awards in the government-operated Royal Saudi Naval Forces. A champion of the Filipino circle in the Kingdom. A friend, confidante and “kuya” to his fellow Saudi workers.
These are but a few of the qualities that make Andres Tomagos popular and dear not only among his fellow naval workers but the whole of the Filipino community in Saudi Arabia. A kind hearted individual, his concern for his fellow Filipinos knows no bounds. Championing the cause of distressed and abused Filipino workers, his efforts for 11 years were rewarded with appreciation from both the Philippine embassy and the Filipino in Saudi Arabia and the Most Outstanding Filipino Citizen Award in Saudi Arabia.
At the height of the Gulf War, he was one of those who bravely engineered the evacuation of his compatriots trapped in a military installation ravaged by the enemy forces. Through his group’s representation with the management or Royal Saudi Naval Forces, thousands of the Filipino employees were provided with war risk payment and other benefits.
With all these feathers to his cap, Tomagos is also hailed as the father of sports in Saudi by the Filipino OCWs themselves. He was the first to organize a Filipiniana Sports Fest (Palarong Pilipino) in Jubail Holding tournament coinciding with the Philippine Independence Day (June 12). He has since been organizing sports activities for the whole of the Filipino community.
